Blood, Sweat & Gears, Boone, 24-June        by Troy Bush

The second annual Blood Sweat and Gears ride was held on June 24, 2000.  This ride is a 100-mile ride that travels through Avery and Watauga Counties, and also goes into Tennessee for a short while.  The scenery is incredible.  Congratulations to Bill Gintert on his 4th place finish .  Bill completed the ride in 5 hours 11 minutes.  Other finishers and their times are: Troy Bush 5:50, John Price 5:53, Margot Rott 5:55, Ronald Hutchins 6:10, and Chris Baucom 6:14.  After the ride they provided pizza, sub sandwiches, drinks, and cookies.  Proceeds go to the American Red Cross.  This is a great century ride, which also includes a shorter route of ~45 miles.  And you don’t have to worry about transportation back to your car since the 100-mile route is a loop.   We need to consider adding this one to our list of annual rides!

Roan Moan Metric Century, Bakersville, NC, 17-June     by John Price

This ride features over 5,000 feet of climbing enroute up to Carver’s Gap.  Congratulations to Terry Herrington for completing this ride in 4:55.

The Bear - 5 mile hill climb - Jim Weant 45:00; Hal Angel 55:00.

Grandfather Mountain Marathon - Ronald Hutchins and Paula Weant 4:11.
